Each year the wall announces historic events, political views and personal revelations. At first, the city was against the wall’s words and aimed to tear it down, until 1990 when the wall became a permanent memorial honoring five victims of the most brutal murders in Gainesville’s history and the residents finally saw the value in the students’ voice.
